Safari 97 is a family-owned specialty coffee company in Calgary, Alberta, Canada, run by brothers Joe and Shem Thiongo. We source directly from Kenyan farmers and the Nairobi Coffee Exchange, roast in small batches, and write tasting notes in plain language.

Small-batch roasted specialty coffee sourced from Kenya and East Africa. Available as a one-time bag purchase or a recurring subscription (weekly, fortnightly, or monthly). Every bag is available in Whole Bean or Ground.

Everyday coffee drinkers who want genuinely good coffee without the vocabulary test. People who are curious about specialty coffee but put off by jargon, ceremony, or snobbery. Subscription-friendly buyers who want good coffee to arrive on schedule without thinking about it.

How we describe coffee

Every bag gets one plain-language sentence (what it tastes like) and three single-word tags: First Sip, Middle, After. No cupping jargon. Words you would use standing at a kettle, not a cupping table.
